According to the American Music Therapy Association, music therapy is "a clinical and evidence-based use of music intervention to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional that has completed an approved music therapy program." After assessment, music therapy intervention is implemented to address the cognitive, physical, communication, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of children and adults. Music therapy will utilize creating, singing, moving and listening to music to address their individualized goals and learn to transfer these new acquired skills to other areas in their lives. Common music therapy techniques utilized are songwriting, improvisation, song lyric analysis and music assisted relaxation, among others. Music therapy provides a non-invasive and non-threatening environment that encourages exploration, change and growth.

Yoga Therapy and Reiki

Jodie Tingle-Willis, LCSW, E-RYT
Yoga Therapist and Reiki Master
Locations:  The Highlands, Beechmont, In-Home

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, and Reiki Master with many years of serving the strongest children and families in our community who have survived trauma such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, or neglect. I quickly learned as a clinician that talk therapy has its limits. We must bring all of ourselves into the healing process: mind, body, and spirit.

Yoga Therapy

According to The International Association of Yoga Therapists, yoga therapy is "the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the philosophy and practice of yoga."

Yoga therapy for youth takes the same philosophies found in adult yoga but adds playfulness to the practice, such as story-telling, games, dance, and song.
Yoga therapy has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while improving muscular strength, body flexibility, and overall quality of life.

Through yoga therapy at The P.L.A.C.E., you will also learn ways to use yoga at home with your child and how to include successful yoga therapy techniques into other areas of your child's life.

Reiki

Reiki is a healing technique based on the principle that the provider can channel energy into the client, by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the body and restore physical and emotional wellness. Benefits of Reiki include stress reduction, pain management, and decreased feelings of anxiety and depression.
Experiences during a Reiki treatment tend to vary from person to person, but Reiki is often experienced as being very relaxing and soothing, and many people experience better quality sleep and higher levels of energy after a treatment.
Through Reiki at The P.L.A.C.E., you will also learn ways to use Reiki at home with your child and how to include successful Reiki techniques into other areas of your child's life.
